## How to print and use the labels

List the rooms of your *new* home, give each a colour, and enter how many boxes are going there. The preview shows every sheet exactly as it will print. Press Print labels, choose your printer or Save as PDF, and keep the scale at 100% (turn off "fit to page" and the browser's headers and footers if they appear).

- **Colour and shape** go together: each colour has its own shape, so a label printed in black and white still matches its room.
- **Box numbers** can count per room (Kitchen, box 3 of 8) or across the whole move (box 14 of 26). Whole-move numbers make it easy to check that every box has arrived.
- **Tick boxes** for fragile, heavy, open first and this side up are filled in by hand as you pack, and the ruled lines leave room to list the contents.
- **Door signs** print one per page. Tape each one beside its doorway before the boxes arrive, so whoever carries a box can match the colour without asking.
- **Handling labels** print large words with a symbol, for the sides of boxes that need extra care.

**Example:** five rooms with 26 boxes, six fragile, two open-first and four this-side-up labels at six per page fill 7 sheets of A4, and the door signs add 5 more. On plain paper, stick each label down with clear tape over all four edges; label the top and one side of every box.

Your rooms and settings are saved in this browser. Nothing is uploaded: the sheets are drawn on this page and your browser prints them.

## Paper sizes

- A4 is 210 × 297 mm, from the ISO A series ([ISO 216:2007](https://www.iso.org/standard/36631.html)). US Letter is 8.5 × 11 in, which is 215.9 × 279.4 mm at 25.4 mm to the inch.
- Sheets keep a 10 mm margin on every side, inside the area most home printers can reach, with a 4 mm gap between labels and dashed cutting lines.

## Questions

**Can I print the labels on sticker paper?**

Yes, on full-page sticker sheets, which you then cut along the dashed lines. Pre-cut label sheets come in many layouts, so the labels here will not line up with their cuts; plain paper and clear tape work well and cost less.

**Why does each colour have a shape?**

So the system still works from a black-and-white printer, for anyone who finds some colours hard to tell apart, and in a dim hallway. A box with a star goes to the room whose door sign has a star.

**The printout is smaller than the page. What happened?**

The print dialog is probably scaling the page. Set the scale to 100% or Actual size, untick Fit to page, and choose the same paper size as here (A4 or US Letter). Turning off headers and footers stops the browser adding its own text.

**Should labels go on the top or the side of a box?**

Both, if you can. A label on top is easy to read while packing, but boxes end up stacked, so one on a side stays visible in a pile. The calculator on the box page counts two labels per box for that reason.

**Can I save the labels as a PDF?**

Yes. Press Print labels and choose Save as PDF (or Microsoft Print to PDF) as the printer. The PDF keeps the page size you picked here.
